A Ladakhi youth asked His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama about the purpose of life. In response, His Holiness said that life becomes meaningful when one is able to contribute to the society in which one lives. His Holiness gave his own life as an example, saying that he has devoted himself to serving the Tibetan people and the Tibetan Buddhist religion. If he is able to continue making such a contribution, His Holiness said, he considers the purpose of his life fulfilled.
